Whalsay are this year’s winners of the Highland Fuels Cup, the traditional pre-season Shetland Football Association tournament.

The Bonnie Isle side defeated Spurs 4-2 last night on the artificial turf of their home ground at Symbister, where all the matches in the competition had been played.

Stuart Goodlad, Lee Irvine, Ross Irvine and David Murray got the goals for Whalsay with Paul Molloy and Luke Smith replying for the Lerwick side.

The match saw Spurs keeper Andrew Goodlad saving a Whalsay penalty in the last minute of the match after Murray had been brought down in the box.

A worry for the winners was when Ross Irvine went off with a suspected dislocated knee which he sustained while scoring his goal. Whalsay will hope the injury is not as bad as first thought.
