Books are brought to students
Rosalind GriffithsWorld Book Night took place last week and Shetland College, assisted by Shetland Library, got in on the act by giving books away to students.
An initiative of The Reading Agency to encourage reading, the free books on offer on Thursday ranged from science fiction, to comedy and fantasy.

Students Becky Moverley, 20, Lerwick, Erin Gibson, 18, Burra, and Morgan Rennie, 20, Mossbank, chose The Martian by Andy Weir, Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb and The Moaning of Life by Ken Pilkington respectively.
Becky said: “I don’t read a lot but with the right book I’ll give it a go.”
The idea is to pass the book on to someone else once it has been read, and there is a chart in the front cover for name of readers to be entered.
Marghie West of Shetland Library said the scheme had been at NAFC Marine Centre earlier in the day and had been well received.
Shetland College librarian Ruth Priest said the college and Shetland Library worked closely together to promote reading. She added: “Shetland Library has recently lent us a batch of books for leisure reading so that the students don’t have to go into town.”
