Accordion and fiddle concert next week
Shetland Accordion and Fiddle Club is holding a concert in the Garrison Theatre on Tuesday.
This has now become an annual event, and being in the middle of the holiday season has proved to be popular with locals and visitors alike.
Artistes include the ever popular Cullivoe Dance Band with their particular style of dance music, and they are sure to include a set featuring top fiddler Bryan Gear.
Another top player in the making is the 2015 Shetland Young Fiddler of the Year Bryden Priest from Unst who will demonstrate why he won this year’s title.
Gussie & Co will no doubt include pipes, accordion, and drums in their programme to ensure variety.
The brilliantly named Girsie and da Loose Ends are also making a rare appearance – for those of you who have not heard them before, this is an opportunity not to be missed with easy listening swing music.
Fiddle Finale, a group of young fiddlers, will be playing music from a variety of places including Shetland, Scotland and Scandinavia, and may include a surprise or two.
Also appearing fresh from her success at the folk festival is Elsbeth Clark with her humorous songs based on real life events.
Bruce Peebles spent some time working in Shetland a few years ago and returned last year. He has been returning regularly over the years and is well known throughout the isles and will entertain with his accordion.
Accordion and fiddle club chairman Peter Leask said: “These concerts have proved popular every year and we hope to have a full house for what should be an excellent night’s entertainment.”
