Whalsay beat Burra in exciting Parish Cup final

Whalsay emerged victorious against Burra in a nail-biting finish to the Parish Cup, which ended at 2-1 after extra time.

A David Murray shot from the six yard line was stopped by Burra’s keeper Ian Hannah with James Shearer running in to score in the second minute of the match.

John Brian Adamson scored a well worked Burra equaliser half way through the second half of the match.

Whalsay were awarded a penalty after Alistair Johnston was brought down, but despite sending Burra’s keeper the wrong way James Shearer’s shot went wide.

At 1-1 after 90 minutes the match went to extra time.

Whalsay’s Gary Jamieson scored the winning goal during a Whalsay corner in the second half of extra time.

Whalsay’s captain Richard Arthur was presented with the Parish Cup by Parish Cup Association president Iain Smith
