Remanded after allegedly stealing alcopops

A man has been remanded in custody after allegedly stealing drink from a Lerwick supermarket and carrying out an assault with a step-ladder.

Trevor Couper, 22, of Cairnfield Road in the town appeared from custody before honorary sheriff Arnold Duncan at Lerwick Sheriff Court.

He faces two charges of stealing alcopops from Tesco on Friday.

Couper is also charged with threatening violence and challenging two men to a fight at an address in St Magnus Street. He is alleged to have brandished a bottle, broken it and shouted and swore.

Couper is also said to have struck a man on the head with the step-ladder at the same address.

All the offences are alleged to have happened while Couper was on bail. He denies all the charges.

Trial was set for 1st October, with an intermediate diet on 16th September. Bail was refused.
