Shoot-out victory clinches County Shield for Celtic
Yesterday’s County Shield Final went all the way to penalties – with Celtic beating their Lerwick rivals Spurs in a penalty shoot-out.
Celtic had led the game at half time following a speedy brace from James Aitken before the half hour mark.
However, Paul Molloy pulled one back before the break to five the Milkbags a boost going into the break.
Spurs equalised in the 65th minute when Andrew Flett fired in a shot following a corner.
That is how the game stayed until full-time.
Both sides made changes for the extra period, but nobody was able to make the breakthrough. That ensured the final would come to a dramatic conclusion with the penalty shoot-out.
And it was Celtic who emerged 3-2 winners in the shoot-out sparking celebrations and denying Spurs another trophy.
Full report in Friday’s Shetland Times.
