Alcohol licence granted for food fair
The Clickimin Leisure Complex will be able to sell alcohol within the building as off-sales during the Christmas Craft Fair, the council’s licensing board unanimously decided today.
The licence will be from 10am to 10pm, and enable goods from local producers to be sold on the premises rather than from outside, as happened last year. The sales will take place in the food fair, which is being hosted by food and drink producers separate from the craft fair, from 30th October to 1st November.
No objections were made by police to the application, which was made by Shetland Recreational Trust.
Last year local drinks producers applied for a licence to sell alcohol from the Clickimin’s car park, with the public offered free tasting of products from displays in the squash courts. If the customer then wished to make a purchase, this was done from the back of a van in the car park.
According to the application for this year’s licence from Clickimin assistant manager Robbie Leask: “This arrangement proved unsatisfactory for both customers and producers.”
The complex, which already has an on-sales licence for consumption on the premises, will have off-sales in one defined area of the main hall, near court number six.
