Unst woman nominated for Scottish care award
A Shetland worker has been announced as a finalist at the Scottish Health Awards 2015.
Kathleen Johnson, a senior manager at the Brucehall Extra-Care Housing Complex in Unst, has been shortlisted for the Integrated Care for Older People Award.
Mrs Johnson has been described as instrumental in the setting up of Brucehall as extra-care housing and has been praised for improving the lives of a great deal of people.
Brucehall gives people the option of living in homes which they rent, but where support is available to them at all times. Residents have a variety of different needs and the support offered to them is tailored to each individual.
Mrs Johnson is responsible for the polytunnel where vegetables and flowers are grown for the residents to enjoy.
All nominees fought off stiff competition from across the country to secure their place at this year’s glittering award ceremony in November.
Shetland Islands Council chief executive Mark Boden said: “We are delighted that Kathleen has been nominated for this award and would like to congratulate her on this.
“We know how committed she has been to the development of the Brucehall facility as an excellent example of a service that supports people to live well in their community, the nomination is well deserved.”
Every year the Scottish Health Awards recognise and reward the dedicated NHS staff, support workers, volunteers and specialist teams who go the extra mile to provide outstanding patient care.
There are 16 award categories in total, including the Nurse Award, the Volunteers Award and the renowned Doctor Award.
The winners will be announced at a prestigious awards ceremony on 4th November at the Corn Exchange in Edinburgh.
