Blanket of fog disrupts flights
Today’s fog disrupted flights to and from Shetland, with both Sumburgh and Scatsta suffering cancellations.
Although two early morning flights from Sumburgh, one to Kirkwall and one to Edinburgh, both got away before 8am, all subsequent arrivals and departures were cancelled.
The morning’s first flight, from Aberdeen, due to arrive at 7.45am, was diverted back to Aberdeen, and the 11.05am arrival from Edinburgh was diverted to Kirkwall.
All other arrivals, including one due at 9.15am from Bergen, were cancelled, and departures to Aberdeen, Bergen, Edinburgh and Glasgow were also cancelled.
At Scatsta there were no flights in or out, either by helicopter or fixed wing aircraft.
Loganair spokesman Peter Carroll said the Sumburgh situation was being monitored, and it was hoped the fog would clear after 4pm. He added that alternative transport arrangements via the ferry were being made available for those who wanted to take it.
