Memorial service held in Lerwick
A fine morning blessed a couple of hundred people who turned out to pay their respects to the war dead at the Hillhead in Lerwick today.
Fishermen’s Mission superintendent Aubrey Jamieson led the memorial service and said prayers before the wreath laying ceremony led by Lord Lieutenant Bobby Hunter.
Around 15 wreaths were laid by representatives of different branches of the armed forces as well as the police, coastguard, Anderson High School and various other organisations.
As well as praying for members of the armed forces, quoting the lines of poet John Maxwell Edmonds, Mr Jamieson prayed for refugees and others who were victims of global strife and turmoil.
After the parade and mid-way though the ceremony, the crowd hushed for a two-minute silence which was followed by more prayers and the wreath laying before members and ex-members of the armed forces marched away.
