Hockey girls ready for quarter-final clash
The Shetland Ladies hockey team are travelling to Aberdeen this weekend for their Scottish District Cup “home” quarter-final against GHK Ladies 2s.
The GHK Ladies first team play in the National League Division One and their second team in the West District League Division 1. They have a further two teams, 3s and 4s, so are a well established club.
The training window between the cup rounds for the last 16 and the last eight has been very short with just a fortnight to prepare.
The Shetland players who have continued with training and training games twice weekly in the run up to this next stage of the cup have worked hard and are confident, ready and determined to do their best for Shetland to progress through to the next stage.
The squad selected for this round is: Kristan Robertson (captain), Nicola Balfour (vice-captain), Janetta Williamson, Rhiannon Inkster, Maggie Irvine, Vicky Anderson, Abbey Irvine, Emma Inkster, Victoria Duthie, Aimee Keith, Nicola Johnston, Julie Kirkness, Stacey Laurenson, Jillian Copland and Rebekah Laurenson.
The squad will be coached by Jill Hibbert and the travelling umpire will be Sarah Couper.
Anyone available to come along to support the Shetland team would be very welcome. The passback has been scheduled for 12.30pm at Aberdeen Sports Village on Sunday.
Hibbert said: “Thanks again to all those who have attended training and provided valuable opposition for the squad members to prepare, and to Simon Skinner and Sarah Couper for umpiring.
“We wish Kristan and her team all the best for the game. C’mon Shetland!”
