Another three arrested on drugs charges
Three more men were arrested yesterday in Lerwick on drugs charges.
The arrests followed the appearance in court on Friday of three other people, two men and a woman, on similar charges. They made no plea or declaration and were released on bail.
The latest three men, aged 51, 29 and 19, remain in custody and reports have been sent to the procurator fiscal.
Area police commander Lindsay Tulloch said: “We act on information and target those suspected to be involved in supplying drugs in Shetland.
“This week we have searched six houses and seized over £13,000 worth of cannabis, heroin and amphetamine.
“Six people have been charged with possessing illegal drugs and seven people have been arrested on charges of supplying illegal drugs.
“Illegal drugs are a threat to our community and we will continue to arrest people who are willing to profit from the sale of illegal drugs on Shetland.
“I would ask for the community to help and to report anyone they think may be involved in selling or taking drugs to Shetland.”
• Meanwhile the police are appealing for witnesses to an assault which took place about 10.40pm last night, near to Lerwick’s Toll Clock Shopping Centre and Bolts minimarket.
The incident saw two women assault another woman, causing minor injury.
The culprits are described by the police as being “females in their late teens”.
One had long dark hair and was wearing a grey hooded top, blue skinny jeans and white high-top trainers.
The other was wearing a black hooded top, black skinny jeans and brown Ugg style boots.
Anyone with information about the incident is requested to contact the police on 101 or at the Lerwick Police Station.
