Ferry sailings affected by weather

Tomorrow’s scheduled sailing of the Northlink ferry Hjaltland to Kirkwall and Aberdeen has been pushed ahead to mid-day owing to bad weather.

Passenger and car check-in will open at 11:00am and will close at 11:30am. Estimated time of arrival in Kirkwall (Hatston Pier) is 9pm. The ship is then to sail from Kirkwall at 10pm and is estimated to arrive in Aberdeen at 7am on Thursday.

Hjaltland arrived in Aberdeen at 9:46am this morning and is scheduled to depart at 7pm sailing for Lerwick.

Northlink also warned that the Hrossay, due to sail for Aberdeen from Lerwick at 7pm tonight, might arrive in Aberdeen later than its scheduled 7am docking and passengers would be up-dated en-route.

Tomorrow’s scheduled sailings of the Hamnavoe on the Pentland Firth route at 4.45pm and 7pm were to be kept under review, according to Northlink.

    Now that the millstone of the Carmichael court case has been lifted from the Liberals, dare we hope that the scandal of Shetland and Orkney falling substantially while those for the Western Isles have been soaring will be tackled head on by our MP and MSP.

    Scottish government data ((NB All figures are in £millions).
    FERRY SERVICE 2013-14 2014-14 2015-16 Change
    Clyde/Hebridean. 85.5 101 116 +35%
    Road Equ.Tariff 3.9 5 10. +156%
    Sub-total (Cl.&Heb’n). 89.4 106 126. +41%

    Shetland/Orkney. 37.5 36 32.3. -14%

    Clyde and Hebridean up forty one percent, Shetland and Orkney down fourteen percent – looks awful like a smoking gun, clutched tightly between two bright red hands.

        @Robin Stevenson,

        I’m not laughing. Nor is any Shetland or Orkney ferry user.

        As you have comented on everything bar the fact that Western Isles ferry subsidies have risen by 41 percent over three years while those for Shetland and Orkney have fallen by 14 percent, I assume you accept these figures as correct?

        What do Danus Skene and SNP Shetland have to say about this?

    How typical, Robin Stevenson, short a rational comment resorts to insults, how very SNP of him! I quote him, “Laughable if it wasn’t so pathetic.”, such a predictable response from Robin.

    Maybe if the snp put the same kinda funding into our services as they do the western isles service we would have boats and harbours capable of operating in the conditions we experience. Just a thought.
