Comedian Mark Thomas announces Lerwick show

Comedian Mark Thomas will bring his new show Trespass to Lerwick in the spring.

He is known for his campaigning Channel 4 program The Mark Thomas Product and appearances on shows like The Mary Whitehouse Experience and Have I got News for You.

Thomas maintains his standing as an “alternative comedian” who includes political comment as a cornerstone of his act.

Trespass carries on from where 100 Acts of Minor Dissent – an account of an entire year spent “living provocatively” and carrying out acts of dissent which ranged from whimsical and surreal to acts of bold defiance – left off. The new show is said to include his usual odd mix of theatre, stand-up, activism, a dash of journalism and dollop of mayhem.

Mark asks the question: “If the ramblers of the 1930s were here now what would they do to open up the cities? How do we turn the skyscrapers and corporate squares into our playgrounds?”

He sets out to try and carve a small space in the urban world where mischief and random chance can lurk.

Winner of the Time Out comedy award in 1990, and nominated for the Perrier Award in 1992, Mark’s previous shows have included Belching Out the Devil, an expose of soft drinks giant Coca-Cola and Bravo Figaro! an award-winning account of his relationship with his opera-loving father, commissioned by the Royal Opera House.

He will be performing in Mareel on 25th March.
