Technical fault puts Linga out of service
Shetland Islands Council has apologised to passengers for disruption to the ferry service after the Whalsay ferry Linga developed a technical fault.
The Linga is out of service and will require parts and fitting by a specialist engineer from Norway before she is back in action. Once these have been fitted, and the vessel has undergone safety checks, then she should return to service later this week. The council estimates this could be on Friday.
Meanwhile, the Whalsay route will be operating a single vessel timetable, using the Hendra. She will follow the Linga’s timetable. Existing bookings are suspended and operating on a first come first served basis.

Wondering if this has had an ongoing effect as the Toft to Ulsta service today (6th) is passenger only? Surely as peoples lives and livelihoods rely on these services spares (parts and vehicles) should be considered?

The crews of the Whalsay ferrys did a good job over this carry on, both squeezing on cars and By keeping the public informed, the crews and there familys kept the community informed better than The Management at sella ness who took days to say anything at all.

The lads on the Whalsay ferries always go out of there way to help and to make space for everyone. Technical things happen of course, but the lads have done their upmost as always.

Laurence, I think by all accounts the management at Sella Ness don`t do very much at all.
