Tribute act to bring ‘spirit of the Pogues’ to Lerwick
One of Ireland’s most popular tribute bands are making the trip north early next month to play in Shetland for the first time.
The Pogoes, who pay tribute to the legendary Pogues, will play at Mareel in Lerwick on Saturday 5th March.
Over the best part of a decade the seven-piece group have built up a strong following in Ireland since forming in their hometown of Belfast.
Like The Pogues, whose music has been described as Celtic Punk, The Pogoes fuse traditional instruments such as accordion, tin whistle and mandolin with modern rock to create a sound that The Pogues pioneered back in their 1980s heyday.
The Pogoes are fronted by Barry Mills who takes on the persona of the legendary Shane MacGowan to deliver Pogues’ classics such as A Pair of Brown Eyes, If I Should Fall from Grace with God and perennial favourite Fairytale of New York.
With The Pogues now seemingly in permanent retirement, The Pogoes keep the spirit of band alive and ensure that such great songs will continue to be heard live for years to come.
The Pogoes will be supported in Lerwick by the isles very own “Celtic punks” Scaldin Bragg.
