Whalsay ferry Linga out of service due to electrical fault

The Whalsay ferry Linga has been out of service, due to an electrical fault affecting the vessel’s propulsion system, since around 7am this morning.

The service is currently operating with a single vessel service, using the Hendra, a veteran of the route.

However, according to Shetland Islands Council the Filla will be brought into service to provide an additional vessel for the noon sailing, which will leave from both Laxo and Symbister.

Council engineers are said to be investigating the cause of the fault on the Linga and the SIC has apologised for the disruption.

The Linga was blighted by trouble when she first came into service but in recent years has been operating much more successfully.

Travelling passengers are asked to check the voicebank on (01595) 743973 for the latest update on this route.
