Sharon does it again with swapshop
Sharon’s Swapshop 2016 is on this weekend and will be held at the Aith Hall on Sunday 14th February from 12pm to 5pm.
The annual event that has grown in size every year will this time around be raising money for the Aith lifeboat accommodation block and the fishermen’s mission.
The Salvation army are collecting all the clothes that are left after the event so that charity will also, in effect, be supported.
Organiser Sharon Deyell said: “Nothing is wasted – everything shall find a home! As we alway say ‘one persons rubbish, is another persons treasure’.”
Sharon started the Swapshop in 2007 at her house at Semblister. After two home-based events, the Swapshop moved into the Bixter hall. “We had two at Bixter then it started to grow and we moved to the Aith hall. Its just grown since then and gets bigger every year,” said Sharon.
“Over the years we have raised a total of £25,011 fae folk swapping claes!”
Various charities have received donations over the years. These have been mostly local but also some further afield.
“Folk really seem to love the idea of clearing out their clothes and then ‘swapping’ it for something new, or ‘new’ to them,” said Sharon.
“This is a really good time of year to have it as folk are looking to spring so they are all having a spring clean.
“Its the usual format, folk can bring stuff along on the day to swap, I have got a lot of donations so far, but we always welcome more stuff on the day.
“Nothing is priced its just donations – whatever they feel they can put in.
“Teas are also on offer, hence calling it ‘Taes n Claes’. We also have a raffle with a huge amount of prizes on offer, this year’s star prize is a Burra Bear!”
