Talent contest returns to boost Relay for Life funds
Calling all singers, dancers, musicians and comedians… Shetland’ Got Talent is returning as part of the fundraising campaign for the CRUK Relay for Life.
All manner of artistes will take to the Mareel stage on Saturday 16th April in a bid to impress the judges Malcolm Younger, Jillian Mouat and Davie Gardner.
Applications are now being taken and organiser Sheila Duncan said the committee would like to see a broad range of talent vying for the title.
She said: “Shetland punches above its weight in the talent stakes and previous years have seen singers, dancers and musicians grace the stage. The committee would love to see as wide a range of acts as possible, so whatever your talent, you are encouraged to get involved.”
Returning as comperes for the night are “dynamic duo”, Jonny Polson and Bryan Peterson.
Mrs Duncan said: “We may even see the return of ‘Peerie Jonny and Bryan’ just to keep everybody on their toes.”
Shetland’s Got Talent is held every other year to coincide with the relay for life. In 2014 the winners were Megan and Lauren, who have been much in demand since they took the top prize and are now regularly performing all over Shetland.
They will be on hand to see the 2016 winner announced as well as performing on the night.
The entry fee is £10, but contestants can help raise much more for Cancer Research UK as once the entries are whittled down to a top three, the voting will be done by the audience. Collection buckets will be circulated with the finalists’ names on them and the act which secures the most money for the charity will win.
The winner on the night will be presented with £250 prize money, but will also have the opportunity to perform at the Relay For Life on 28th May.
Anyone who would like to take part can find an application form on the CRUK Relay for Life Shetland Facebook page, or contact Mrs Duncan at: sheila.duncan5@btinternet.com. The deadline is Friday 18th March.
