Battling performance sadly not enough for hockey squad

A battling performance was unfortunately not enough for Shetland Ladies Hockey Team in the semi-final of the Women’s District Cup today.

The side went down 5-3 against Glasgow-based Milne Craig Clydesdale Western Ladies 4s.

The match took place at the Aberdeen Sports Village this morning.

Shetland went behind in the first half before Stacey Laurenson brought them level and then Kristan Robertson put them ahead.

However, in what was a quick start to the game Milne Craig equalised – all in the first 15 minutes or so – and they scored again to lead 3-2 at half-time.

The second half saw Milne Craig take firm control of the tie, basically putting the game out of Shetland’s reach by taking a three-goal lead. Shetland fought until the end and in the closing minutes Emma Inkster netted a third goal.

But there was to be no late miraculous fight back. The game ended 5-3 with the Glaswegian team making the final. They will face Orkney who came through their semi-final 8-0.

Orkney got through to the final comfortably. They won their semi final 8-0.

After the match coach Jill Hibbert posted on Facebook saying how proud she was of the team’s performance.

She wrote: “Thanks to Shetland Ladies. Everyone gave 100 per cent out there today. That was our toughest game in the DC [district cup] so far over all the years and we still scored 3 cracking goals. Very proud of you all. ???????? Well done. ”
