Two car accident at North Levenwick junction

Fire crews used cutting equipment to free two people following a two car accident at the North Levenwick junction this morning, according to the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service.

Emergency services including an ambulance and two fire appliances from Lerwick and Sandwick attended the crash on the A970 after being called out at 9.39am. Fire fighters were involved in “assisting and extricating” two people, one from each vehicle. The casualties were treated by ambulance paramedics.

The road was closed and traffic diverted. Police advised that road users should go via Bigton and they would reopen the road “as soon as it is safe to do so”.

The fire and rescue service said the scene was made safe and the appliances returned to their stations just after 11am.
