Voters encouraged to register for Scottish Election

Anyone who has not received a poll card in the last few days is asked to get in touch with the local electoral registration office if they wish to vote in the forthcoming Scottish Parliamentary Election on Thursday 5th May.

Poll cards were sent out to electors across Shetland at the end of last week, to those who are already included on the Electoral Register.

The voting age at this election is now 16. While the poll card isn’t required to vote, it does confirm that you are registered.

Depute electoral registration officer Ian Leslie said: “Poll cards have been sent out to those on our electoral register.

“Electors who have recently applied to be added to the register, during March, will have their names added to the register on 1st April and will receive a poll card shortly afterwards.

“It’s important that anyone who wishes to vote on 5th May, and doesn’t receive a card gets in touch with us before the deadline for registration, which is 18th April.

“You can contact us either in person or by phone or by e-mail. There is also the online registration option.”
