Assault on partner leads to £400 fine for Lerwick man

A Lerwick man assaulted his partner by pushing her and repeatedly punching her on the head to her injury.

Anthony Andrew Jamieson, 51, of Stout’s Court, admitted the assault which took place on 20th December.

Defence solicitor Tommy Allan said the pair had been out drinking celebrating Jamieson’s birthday and had returned home to eat when an argument arose.

Jamieson, Mr Allan said, had suffered a degree of provocation and had lashed out when his £700 glasses had been knocked off.

There had been no contact between the pair since then and that was the way things would continue. Jamieson was very sorry for what he had done and disappointed with himself.

Procurator fiscal Duncan MacKenzie said it was “once more a drink-fuelled incident”. Jamieson’s mood had changed abruptly and he had pushed the complainer twice, punching her after each push. She had suffered bruises to her arm and bruises and swelling to her eye.

Jamieson, who had recently found work, was fined £400 by Sheriff Philip Mann, to be paid at £100 per month.
