There was a sell-out crowd at Mareel for the CRUK fundraiser which saw young musical trio Fjanna crowded Shetland’s Got Talent winners for 2016.

The youngsters, all aged 12 or 13, showed the future of traditional music in Shetland is in safe hands.  Mike Laurenson (accordion), Jodie Smith (fiddle) and Anya Johnston (piano) were eventually voted as winners after a great night of entertainment.

Eleven acts performed, before the judges, Davie Gardner, Jillian Mouat and Malcolm Younger picked a top three, of classical pianist Alyssa Gair, the young ukulele group Micro Bru and Fjanna. Audience members were asked to vote for their favourite by adding money to buckets – with the act raising the most money being named the winner.

While Fjanna took the plaudits last night the real winner on the night was the charity. The money will be added to the Relay For Life Shetland total.

This year’s Relay takes place on 28th May in Gilbertson Park.
