Generation Science brings ‘good vibrations’ science show to isles schools
Generation Science will be touring its ‘Good Vibrations’ science show to nine primary schools in Shetland next week, including a first ever visit to Baltasound Junior High School.
Good Vibrations is an entertaining workshop which looks specifically at the science of sound; what it is, what it looks like and the differences between pitch, volume and amplification.
Pupils will be given demonstrations of slow motion videos, digital voice recordings and get a chance to hear the sound made by an ‘air zooka.’
Generation Science manager Joan Davidson said: “We are delighted to be touring to Shetland in our 25th anniversary year.”
In 2016 Generation Science celebrates its 25th year of touring science education to schools and by the end of the summer it will have reached over a million pupils in Scotland.
This year the tour will visit over 600 schools in 31 local authority areas from Shetland to the Borders.
The Shetland visits are at: Lunnasting Primary School and Whalsay School on Monday; Skeld Primary School and Aith Junior High School on Tuesday; Mossbank Primary School on Wednesday; Mid Yell Junior High School and Baltasound Junior High School on Thursday; Sandwick Junior High School and Cunningsburgh Primary School on Friday.
Sandra McLennan from Total – who helped finance the tour – said: “Promoting and raising awareness of science in the classroom is a very important part of our community engagement programme.
“We are very pleased to support Generation Science for a second year as the presenters embark on a Shetland Islands tour. We look forward to meeting the pupils and hope they enjoy learning about the science behind Good Vibrations.”
