Tavish win welcomed by fishing leader
A fishing industry leader has welcomed Tavish Scott’s convincing Holyrood election win and congratulated him on becoming Shetland’s MSP for the Liberal Democrats once again.
Shetland Fishermen’s Association executive officer Simon Collins said Mr Scott had been a “stout defender” of the sector and had strived to represent fishing interests.
Mr Scott secured 7,440 votes at yesterday’s election – 3,000 more than he did in the 2011 Scottish elections.
That was enough to give him a comfortable lead over second placed Danus Skene, who attracted 2,545 votes for the SNP.
Mr Collins said in a statement: “We look forward to working with Tavish again in the next five years. He has always been a stout defender of our most important industry and has worked hard to represent our interests in the Scottish Parliament and to ministers.
“In addition I would like to thank the other Shetland candidates for the interest and concern they have shown regarding the issues faced by the local fishing industry.”
