Comedy night back for a second unpredictable instalment
The Shetland Improv comedy group has announced a new show from The Imposters at the Lerwick Legion next week.
Shetland Improv is Shetland’s only source for improvisational comedy, started last year by comedian Marjolein Robertson to help raise the profile of live comedy on the isles.
The graduates of the first series of workshops, as The Imposters comedy troupe, have already performed in the Lerwick Legion, with an audience of over 100, and a successful appearance at the annual Stand-Up Helly A’ show in January.
Working with no scripts, props or ideas, The Imposters take suggestions from the audience and improvise sketches and games around them. Everything happens on the fly, and that means never a dull moment.
The Imposters are comprised of Les Sinclair, Ashley Tulloch, Willem Cluness, Alex Garrick-Wright, Matthew Simpson, Paul Sansom and Thomas Jones.
They are compèred and “barely controlled” by Robertson, who studied improv comedy in New York at the UCB, and is performing stand-up at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe.
She said: “The turnout at our first show in January far exceeded our expectations. We were so happy with the audience’s reactions and the night as a whole.
“I believe it really highlighted the want for more comedy within Shetland. Something we are pleased there’s a hunger for and hope to cater to more in future.”
Doors at the show on Thursday 19th May will open at 7.30pm for an 8pm start. No entry fee is necessary but donations are welcome. The organisers recommend arriving in good time to get a seat near the action.
Due to the unpredictability of the show, and the inability to censor the performers – who are literally making it up as they go along – parental discretion is heavily advised and no guarantees can be made that the material will be suitable for under-18s. In fact, guarantees can probably be made that the material will be wildly unsuitable for under-18s.

Having read countless politically driven comments , gripes ,insults and offensive observations in the letters columns I think the Shetland Improv should try to perform before a gathering of those who appear to find fault with anything and everything. They would acquire an abundance of laughs and satirical material like they would find nowhere else! Of course, there would be a price to pay in the form of outrage and contempt but all of that would soon disappear into the ether along with all that has gone before. On the upside, a whole lot of people would enjoy a well deserved laugh at the vociferous culprits. They know who they are !! Watch this space.
