Drink drive woman fined and banned from road

A woman who drove in Lerwick with almost five times the permitted limit of alcohol in her system has been banned from driving for 20 months and fined £600.

Rosemary Stewart, 61, of Burgh Road, admitted driving with 104 microgrammes of alcohol in 100ml of breath on 17th April between Burgh Road and the Co-op car park – the legal limit is 22 microgrammes.

Stewart was seen by a member of the public driving so erratically  that he followed her into the car park. He then took the keys off her and stayed with her until the police arrived.

Tommy Allan, defending, said in Lerwick Sheriff Court on Wednesday that Stewart’s electricity had run out so she had driven to the Co-op to top up her meter, although she was clearly “a long way over the limit”.
