New high school’s tower cranes dismantled – VIDEO
The tower cranes which have been a familiar sight on the Clickimin horizon were last night dismantled.
Two were erected to help construction workers get the four-storey concrete structure built. Following last week’s “topping out” ceremony they have now been removed as the £55 million project moves to its next phase.
Roof construction will be finished in the coming weeks before interior work begins.
The first of the two tower cranes was erected in December and was thought to be the first of its kind used in the isles.
It was chosen because of its ability to withstand strong winds – up to a force 8 – to minimise disruption on the project.
The 1,180-pupil school and its 100 bedroom hostel is expected to open in the autumn next year.
