The 17th Shetland Classic Motor Show is taking place this weekend, bringing what is promised to be a tremendous collection of vehicles to the Clickimin Centre.

A four-day programme of tours for the various categories of vehicles is already underway, with visits to Yell and Unst so popular that four groups of cars have taken part.

Many of the visiting vehicles have already arrived with dozens coming off the North Boat on Wednesday morning.

Meanwhile, a display of more than 200 cars will be at the Clickimin, along with 150 motorcycles, coaches, commercial vehicles and military machines.

Working stationary engines also feature, as well as tractors, models, photographs and various motoring memorabilia.

The added attraction for visitors this year is a town tour in a classic car, which will operate on both days from 10.30am to 6pm.

One of the motorists providing this service is Shaun Simpson in his near replica of the 7.3 litre General Lee, from the 1979 TV show, The Dukes of Hazzard. Funds raised from the trip will be donated to Disability Shetland and Mind Your Head.

The job of building the new Anderson High School means the show will have a building site as a backdrop. The shortfall in space means there will be no public parking inside the Clickimin’s boundary, except for blue badge holders, from noon on Friday until 10pm on Sunday.

But organisers have turned that round to the show’s advantage. A park and ride shuttle service will operate from the Knab – the tarmac area at the corner of Knab Road and Gressy Loan – to the Clickimin from 9.40am to 8pm on Saturday, and from 9.45am to 6pm on Sunday.

The service, which will also call at Victoria Pier, will be part provided by classic buses, including a Daimler double decker.

Meanwhile, parking is available at Hayfield House, Gilbertson Park and Bells Brae Primary School.
