National care award for Unst’s Brucehall housing project
The Brucehall housing project in Uyeasound, Unst, has been named the winner in the “Integrated Care” category at an NHS Scotland event at the SECC in Glasgow.
The project provides supported sheltered housing in Unst in nine specially adapted properties, where staff are available to provide 24-hour care when needed. The project aims to provide an environment where people can live as safely and independently as possible in their own home.
Senior social care worker at the Brucehall project Kathleen Johnson collected the award on Wednesday afternoon from NHS Scotland chief executive Paul Gray. With Ms Johnson in Glasgow were team leader Graham Stiles and social care worker Jane Macauley, who worked together with Kathleen to prepare an academic style “poster” with details of the Brucehall project. The poster was submitted and the project was eventually recognised as the winner in this category.
Chairman of the Integration Joint Board for Shetland, Cecil Smith, was quick to congratulate the team. “I’m delighted that the Brucehall
Project has won this award and been recognised as being among the best-integrated care projects in Scotland. The staff at Brucehall work hard to provide excellent support and care for the residents and this is a positive endorsement of the service. Well done to all involved.”
