Today’s festival boat trips cancelled

The wind has greeted the inaugural Shetland Boat Week roaring like a lion and today’s (Monday 8th) trips on the sixareen Vaila May the haddock boat Laura Kay and the motor fishing vessel Pilot Us have been cancelled.

Otherwise boat week is going ahead as planned and with the wind forecast to be easing from mid-day onward, it is hoped that the rest of the week’s boat trips can take place, with Vaila Mae sailing or rowing from 10am to 11am every morning, rowing in the Laura Kay at 14.30pm and the Pilot Us trip at 1pm.

Today’s trips on Pilot Us and other boats have been cancelled.

There will also be harbour tours on the replica longship Dim Riv on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.

According to organiser Emma Miller the only other parts of the programme that might be affected by today’s weather are outdoor aspects of the Sumburgh Head Shipwrecks Tour and various events planned for the store on Hay’s dock that may be moved over to the museum side, if it is too windy outdoors.
