Vodafone rolls out 4G coverage for Shetland

Vodafone customers are set to receive faster mobile data speeds as the network unrolls 4G coverage to the isles.

The network improvements come just months after rival network EE brought 4G connectivity to Shetland for the first time.

In May EE switched on its superfast 4G mobile network in the isles covering the Lerwick area. The mobile giant also pledged complete coverage across all of the islands by summer next year.

When announcing the introduction of 4G this week Vodafone also gave assurances that they have improved the capacity and reliability of its network across Shetland.

The mobile phone company have suffered from a raft of complaints recently, including long standing coverage problems plaguing the Delting area.

Kye Prigg, head of mobile networks for Vodafone UK, said: “Residents, visitors and businesses on the islands will now benefit from our even bigger and better network.

“Mobile connectivity plays a vital role in keeping rural communities in touch and supporting local economies, which is why we have invested more than £2 billion on our network and services since 2014 and expect to spend another £2 billion over the next three years. We plan to continue to improve coverage across the islands so more customers can enjoy our network wherever they go.”
