WATCH: Sandy begins epic walk ‘aroond in circles’ for Disability Shetland
Fundraiser Sandy Peterson admitted to feeling some last-minute nerves at the beginning of his latest fundraising venture for Disability Shetland.
For today is the day the 73 year-old undertakes his latest mad-cap adventure in aid of the charity.
Sandy is well on the way to reaching his £2,000 Just Giving target, and will undoubtedly be adding to the on-line tally thanks to cash donations given by generous supporters throughout today.
He began his first circuit of the town at 9am, on a route which takes him past the Lodberrie to the Knab, along the shore to Clickimin, up Staney Hill, down the old North Road and back to the Market Cross.
“I’m nervous to be honest. So much depends on it. I’m happy to be getting on with it, and really impressed by the fact that we have got quite a few folk here already.”
He said it was a “sad fact” that Disability Shetland needed the money. Fundraising helped give the organisation the “steady income” it needed to keep going.
“It lets folk know we’re around, and it lets folk know what we’re doing. I think that’s important too.
“I think it’s an important part of the lives of the young people and the adults. It’s their chance to have a social life and to meet friends, have friendships, and have a good time.”
