Briefcase and bucket? (John C Best)
NHS Shetland has made an executive decision (Trump style) that patients will travel by boat instead of a plane to save money.
Applying the “first principle of management”, will the health board members be leading by example when they travel to Aberdeen or Edinburgh?
It will be interesting to observe them visiting, by boat obviously, the outer isles of Shetland, with their briefcase and bucket!

Folk in Orkney were not pleased to learn of NHS Shetland’s decision. NHS Orkney’s CEO assured them they would not be affected. I wonder who will resolve the disparity.

Ian Kinniburgh is chairperson of both boards.

Is Mr. Kinniburgh the final decision maker for both boards or is that right reserved for someone within NHS with more stripes on their sleeve?

In today’s Orcadian Chairman Kinniburgh announced that NHS Orkney patients traveling to Aberdeen would not be compelled to travel by Northlink Ferry.

Look what autonomy would do for Shetland. No Oil money in the Faeroe Islands, yet:

Atlantic Airways provides Bell 413 helicopters for both SAR and domestic patient transfers, Most are not critically ill or injured, but the alternative is a 2-hour ferry journey, which is often suboptimal.

Sad our health board so cash strapped, Faeroe .2-hour ferry journey, is suboptimal, so you get a helicopter!! A lesson there somewhere!!!
