Town centre planter upturned by vandals
Vandals tipped over a planter on Commercial Street in Lerwick.
Living Lerwick chairman Steve Mathieson said it had cost over £100 to replace the compost and flowers.
The planter is approximately a cubic metre and sits near Harry’s Department store. Mr Mathieson estimated it would have taken two or three people to tip it over.
He thinks it was probably done as a drunken prank on Saturday 28th July or in the early hours of Sunday 29th. “It’s just a bit of mindless vandalism,” he said.
Mr Mathieson urged anyone with information to contact Living Lerwick (info@livinglerwick.co.uk) or call Lerwick police on 101.
Living Lerwick is the town’s business improvement district and is funded by a levy on shops and businesses. Mr Mathieson said it was a shame some of its money had to be used tidying up after the vandalism.

How can’t we use the CCTV that was put in(at great expense) to help with catching these people,Oh thats right it dusna work does it.Why is somebody not accountable for this,As always the police are hoping for help from the locals in catching them.Fix the god damn things and it would take all o 5minutes to see who had done this on reviewing the CCTV back,How hard can it bloody be.

Perhaps it is time that all pubs closed at 11 pm before people became so drunk that they act like complete idiots, extended licensing hours has not cut down on drunken behaviour.
