Bulter award deadline looming
The promoters of the Rhoda Bulter Award are reminding anyone planning to take part in this year’s competition that there are just over three weeks left till the closing date of 31st August.
This year folk have been asked to write short stories in dialect, taking “da wadder” as the theme. Stories can be up to two and a half thousand words.
The competition is run annually to celebrate the memory of Rhoda Bulter who was one of Shetland’s best-loved dialect writers. Although she is probably better known for her poetry, she also wrote prose.
For many years, readers enjoyed following the characters and community she created for Laeves fae Beenie’s Diary which appeared monthly in the Shetland Life magazine.
The award is organised by dialect promotion group Shetland ForWirds and is judged by the Bulter family.
Anyone interested can get details from info@shetlanddialect.org.uk or contact Mary Blance at Lerwick (01595) 694104 before Wednesday or after 18th August.
