Council removes Knab footpath gates
The council has removed the two main gates to the Knab footpath in Lerwick to reduce the coronavirus risk.
The gates at the Breiwick Road and the Knab Road entrances have been removed, the SIC said, to prevent coronavirus transmission on the hard surfaces of the gates for walkers using the footpath.
Nearby gates at Hjaltland Place and below the skate park have also been tied open.
Current government advice is to exercise locally and the Knab footpath is a well-used route for walkers and dog owners.
The SIC said that dog owners should consider keeping their dogs on a lead, if they think this is necessary, due to the gates being removed.

Why not also make the Knab a one-way system too so people don’t have to leave the path to pass? Same could go for path bellow the LK hotel and around the Clickimin Loch.

“Consider keeping dogs on leads” What a REALLY good idea…!
Then all walkers can enjoy a walk around the Knab without the fear of attack
from out of control packs of dogs ,
After all the Knab path is for everybody not just a dogs s**t house…!

Is that not a tad late? Have we been funnelling people though choke points without thought of disinfection and contact virus transmission? Bearing in mind the two-metre separation is only relevant to still air without coughs or sneezes (8-meter aerosol drifts) now shown as probable. Should we not either, indeed shut everyone in their homes, or open up our vast spaces. Shetland is not London, nor any large city so rational and intelligent thinking is needed. A short drive into the country infects no one. You can keep your walk on the Knab, depending on which way the wind blows. Beaches and the empty hills would be a rational start then we really can Social Separate people by a little bit more than two metres. We should use our wild empty spaces, not concentrate folk like a flok of sheep. Herd immunity is one thing, but flocking stupidity is quite another. What serves large cities is entirely wrong for here.

Mr Tinkler. How dare you try to tell others what to do when you are going totally against both NHS, government, police advice.

As I’ve said on other posts. please stay local for your exercise. This is the advice from all sources apart from Mr Tinkler who seems to know better than everyone else.
