NorthLink announces pet-friendly cabins for crossings to Shetland

Pets will now be able to travel with their owners in special cabins on ferry crossings between Shetland and the UK mainland.
NorthLink Ferries announced today (Sunday) that its pet friendly cabins would be available for bookings from tomorrow.
The cabins will be available on its vessels MV Hamnavoe, MV Hjaltland and MV Hrossey, travelling between Shetland, Orkney and the UK mainland.
Each ship has two pet-friendly cabins available which have en-suite facilities, side-by-side lower twin bunks and tea and coffee making facilities.
The pet-friendly cabins also have vinyl floor coverings, lidded dog bins, a dog bowl and a dog treat.
Customers can also walk their dogs on the outer deck. Owners will be expected to clear up any mess.
There is a £15 supplement for each pet staying in the cabin.
A deep clean will be carried out in each pet-friendly cabin each day.
Kennels are still available on board as well as the opportunity to leave pets in vehicles on the car deck.

Id like to thank you as those dark kennels by the ships doors alarms blairing , were like dungeons . Also animals in the own cars or motorhomes unable to comprehend there inviroments scared to the core of cars vehcles reversing in with trailers etc and the noise from refrigerator units blairing away traumatized my dog every time we use the ferry , so a big thankyou gor this more human treatment .

Excellent news! We have never taken our dog with us to Shetland as the outside kennels looked like an awful environment to spend the night in. Will definitely be visiting next year with our pooch.

Aberdeen to Kirkwall was never too bad, we found. However, we also travelled Aberdeen to Lerwick. The weather was rough and it was a trial for our two dogs staying in the car – mainly because of the length of time they were committed to being locked up for… though I confess they always looked happy and relaxed! Undoubtedly, this is a step forward. We are more likely to return to the Northern Isles again because of this decision. Thank you for the re-think.
