Sandveien flood lights get community council boost
Lerwick Community Council will help fund replacement flood lights behind Sandveien Neighbourhood Centre to give young people a safe space to meet up through a winter with restrictions.
The community council approved half of a £1032 grant application at its meeting on Monday evening.
SIC senior youth development worker Martin Summers made the application to replace the lights, which he said would enable youth workers to engage with children while coronavirus restrictions remain in place.
Mr Summers highlighted that during recent youth engagement work young people had been keen to find a suitable and safe space to meet up, and he felt the new lights could support this.
The lights would be accessed outside and controlled on a timer to avoid disturbing neighbours after 10.30pm.
The community council added a caveat to the £516 grant that any lights should be energy efficient.
