Firefighters tackle blaze on fishing boat at Greenhead Base in Lerwick
A fire broke out on board a fishing boat at Greenhead Base in Lerwick this afternoon.
Scottish Fire and Rescue Service received reports of the blaze at 4pm.
Three crews from Lerwick and Sandwick attended and the fire was out by 4.45pm.
Firefighters used breathing apparatus, a hose reel jet and safety jet to extinguish the flames.
A photo taken at the scene showed thick black smoke billowing from the vessel.
After the fire was out, L&M Engineering confirmed that it was not working on the vessel at the time of the incident.
However, David Dix who is the crew commander at the Bixter fire station, saw that the vessel was on fire from the company’s premises nearby at Gremista.
Mr Dix was first on the scene and, along with others, was able to take control of the situation before handing over to the fire service crew members on their arrival.
