UPDATED: Man airlifted to hospital after fall from cliff
A man was airlifted to hospital after falling up to 50 feet from a cliff in Sandwick.
Coastguard teams were summoned along with the Sumburgh-based coastguard helicopter after the incident happened shortly after 4pm today [Friday].
The man, who fell 40 to 50 feet, was airlifted by the helicopter before being taken to the emergency landing site in Lerwick.
There, he was transferred by a waiting ambulance to the Gilbert Bain Hospital.
Earlier, police said the man was taken to hospital after falling “from a height”.
A police statement read: “Around 4.15pm on Friday, 20th May, 2022, police were called to the Sandwick area of Shetland, following a report of a man falling from a height.
“He was airlifted to hospital for treatment.”
