Bird club hears about US wild
SHETLAND Bird Club’s winter talks programme starts tonight at Islesburgh Community Centre.
Colin Bradshaw, a GP from Merseyside but living in Newcastle for the last 30 years, will be giving two talks about USA wildlife. Tonight’s talk will cover winter birds of Arizona.
Dr Bradshaw, whose love of the wild has inspired him to go to far-flung places, said: “This is of particular relevance to Shetland birdwatchers interested in an overseas winter trip. In January there’s glorious wildlife, 12 hours of light and it is warm.”
His keenness to experience polar bears has taken him twice to Alaska, about which he will give a presentation at Sumburgh Hotel on 26th September. It was during one of these trips that he managed to photograph the spectacled eider. This cousin to the dunter is one of the world’s most difficult birds to see.
Both talks begin at 7.30pm and everyone is welcome.
Future Shetland Bird Club talks will include the wildlife of Antarctica and Skomer.
