Emphatic fourth win for Kinetics
TWO matches were played at the weekend in netball’s first division, Kinetics scoring a resounding victory over Supernova and Kiwis just edging out AHS. The two third division matches resulted in wins for Scalloway and Lerwick Juniors.
Division One
Supernova 19, Kinetics 57
In the first quarter Kinetics stormed ahead for an early lead with great linking play between centre court players and shooting dynamos Sarah Grogan and Kirsti Leask, despite the concerted efforts of Supernova defenders Laura Mathewson and Lindsey Manson.
The first quarter ended with Kinetics leading 18-2.
Supernova made some changes and came out with renewed enthusiasm despite the goal difference. However, Kinetics continued to increase their lead with strong all-round play. Supernova shooters Liz Haining and Stephanie Keith linked well in the shooting circle, however opportunities to score were far and few between and the second quarter ended 35-8.
Kinetics continued to dominate the rest of the match and eventually won by 38 points. Players of the match were Louise Kelly for Kinetics and Hannah Burgess for Supernova.
Kiwis 35, AHS 31
AHS got off to a good start with excellent interceptions and passing from the young side into their attacking circle allowing their shooters to make some perfect shots. Kiwis were finding it hard to settle and the first quarter ended 9-8 to AHS.
The second quarter saw some intense play between the two sides and crucial goals were scored by Kiwis shooters Dawn Manson and Marie Clark. AHS showed great determination and kept up their excellent shooting to stay in the game, ending the second quarter level at 17-17.
Throughout the third quarter the pace of the game slowed, allowing Kiwis to make some accurate passing and shots on goal to pull ahead of their young opponents at 27-23.
AHS battled their way through the last quarter with good movement and passing from Inga Woods in to Ava Sim who never failed to make a shot on goal. But Kiwis proved to be to strong in the end and won by four poinjts.
Dawn Manson got player of the match for Kiwis and Ava Sim who won it for AHS.
Division Three
Scalloway Juniors 19, Scallywags 17
Scalloway Juniors took the lead with accurate shooting and strong passing and led 6-3 at the end of the quarter.
Despite the strong Scallywag defence, Scalloway doubled the lead to 12-5 after the second quarter.
Scallywags made a comeback in the third quarter with careful shooting and passing, especially in the centre area, and the score became 16-9.
The fourth quarter was very close and looked like it could go either way. There was some accurate shooting and strong defending from Scallywags but Scalloway Juniors managed to hold their lead.
Players of the match were Karen Bannister and Julie Brown for Scalloway Juniors and Anne-Marie Robinson for Scallywags.
