Weather means extra visitors
THIS week’s bad weather meant a busy spell at Lerwick Harbour with boats of all types seeking shelter and not many spare berths.
Oil supply boats arrived daily and most went to the Greenhead Base. The Anglian Earl, the Northern Gambler and Up Esmeralda came in last Friday when weather conditions started to deteriorate, followed by the Viking Discovery on Sunday, the Mariner Sea, Northern Gambler and Rem Supplier on Monday and the Normand Tonjer on Tuesday.
The 112 metre diving support boat Seawell sheltered at Holmsgarth during the worst of the storms on Saturday, while the diving support boat Toisa Polaris followed on Tuesday. She was joined at Holmsgarth by the stand-by vessel Grampian Otter on Wednesday.
There were many fishing vessels too, including the Dutch trawler Frank Bonefaas at Victoria Pier on Saturday. She was in for shelter and minor engine repairs.
Meanwhile the Petroatlantic has been south of Lerwick outside the harbour limits, and the harbour boats have been carrying out crew changes.
