Safer waters mean fewer visitors
THE IMPROVEMENT in the weather after the recent storms may have been welcomed by most people, but it has led to quieter times at Lerwick Harbour.
On Saturday the Dutch reefer Nova Galicia berthed at the Greenhead base from St Petersburg.
She stocked up with frozen fish from the Catch before heading off to Ijmuiden.
Two tankers, the British Audacity and the Swedish Norden, arrived at Greenhead and Holmsgarth respectively on Sunday, each carrying a cargo of oil.
They were followed on Wednesday by another tanker. The UK registered Border Heather berthed with oil for North Ness, having come up from Kirkwall.
Irish trawler Westward Isle has been sheltering at Victoria Pier, while the Shetland trawlers Antares and Research have been at Holmsgarth to allow the crews to work with gear prior to tying up.
Norwegian vessels have also been arriving on these shores.
The Liafjell berthed at Victoria Pier on Saturday, although she had no fish on board.
She was followed on Tuesday by Julianne III, which was landing a load of herring at the Catch.
