Bressay Light cricketers open eight-point gap
LAST weekend’s indoor cricket matches saw wins for Emergency Services, Thunderbirds and Bressay Light.
Emergency Services 74 for 2
Lerwick B 71 for 3
In a match reduced to nine overs per side, Emergency Services batted first. Andrew Cooper and Neville Davis started well until Cooper was first player out for 12. Davis was the only one of the two batsmen to score any runs, retiring on 25 not out. The Lerwick B bowling was a bit erratic, conceding 21 extras, as Emergency Services reached 74 for two.
Lerwick B’s innings did not start well with Richard Davis being run out for just four. Paul Hargreaves and John Morton were batting well until Hargreaves was caught and bowled for 16.
The result came down to the last over, with Lerwick needing 12 runs to win. They managed to score eight off the first five balls, leaving four required from the final ball, but could only manage a single, giving Emergency Services a close victory.
Thunderbirds 89 for 3
Lerwick A 65 for 2
Thunderbirds started their innings with 13 runs coming from the first over. Lerwick A then took two quick wickets, putting the pressure on the Thunderbirds batsmen. Asif Mohammad was in fine form and he retired on 27 not out. Lerwick A’s bowlers were off target, conceding 22 wides which helped Thunderbirds to 89 for three from nine overs.
Lerwick A started well until they lost two wickets in one over to the bowling of Graham March. Only Les Irving looked to challenge the bowling, making 19 not out. Lerwick could only manage 66 for two off nine overs.
Brae 33 all out
Bressay Light 34 for 2
Brae batted first and were soon in trouble as the Bressay bowling took three wickets in the first four overs. Brae only had four players so it was all down to Liam Doull to try and dig them out of a hole. He played well but was out for 17 and Brae’s total was only 33 from seven overs.
Bressay Light lost both openers when on 33, but easily reached the required total of 34 from only four overs.
The player of the week was Asif Mohammad for his good batting and accurate bowling.
