Harbour quiet
It may be spring but Lerwick Harbour has experienced a “dismally” quiet week, according to port control, with a lull in proceedings prior to the summer.
However the second yacht of the season arrived this week: the Norwegian Appollon arrived on Tuesday and berthed at the small boat harbour.
The first, which was also from Norway, had intended to arrive in time for Up-Helly-A’ but was hampered by bad weather and eventually made it at the beginning of February.
The highlight of the week was the first visit of the brand new Italian Asso Trenta, a 77 metre oil rig supply boat, the first of several to be built by the company, which arrived from the Magnus field on Tuesday, berthing at the Greenhead base.
The only other oil-related vessels to call this week were the Singapore-registered Boa Fortune and the British Vos Tiree.
Various Scandinavian fishing boats arrived during the week. The Talbor, Vestviking, Harvest and Mogsterhav all landed blue whiting at Shetland Catch and berthed at Gremista.
The Norwegian live fish carrier Froeyfisk has been taking salmon smolts to the North Isles and has been at Victoria Pier West this week.
At the south entrance to the harbour, the tankers Petronordic and Petroatlantic provided work for the harbour boat Knab.
