Body found

The body of a man from Teesside was recovered during a sea and air search for a missing oil worker in the North Sea on Tuesday.

Martin Lindsay, 51, from Cleveland, first went missing from the Beryl Alpha platform, 90 miles to the south-east of Shetland, shortly after midnight on Tuesday and the alarm was raised at 3.07am following a muster station on the platform.

Shetland Coastguard’s rescue helicopter 102 was involved in the search along with an offshore standby vessel and a fishing boat, before being stood down shortly after 8am.

The man’s body was discovered under the Beryl Alpha platform by a remotely operated submersible.

Police said on Wednesday morn­ing that Mr Lindsay’s relatives had been informed and arrangements were being made for the recovery of the body.
