John Magnus raises bar in clay shoot
Shetland Clay Target Club held a 100-target Scottish Olympic skeet selection shoot last Sunday.
The shoot started in good conditions and John Magnus Laurenson and Bryan Sutherland, who are due to represent Shetland at the island games in Åland, both hit 22s in the first of the four rounds.
In round two John improved with a 23 with Bryan and Christopher Williamson hitting 19s. John Magnus raised the bar yet again when he hit a 24 with Bryan on 22 a good standard on difficult fast targets.
As is often the case in Shetland the weather played a part in the last round. By then the wind had picked up to a stiff breeze that disrupted the flight of the clays. The scores suffered with John Magnus managing a 21 and Bryan and Christopher 19s.
The shoot was won by John Magnus Laurenson with a total of 90, which will count towards a Scottish team place. Second place went to Bryan Sutherland on 82 with Christopher Williamson on 76 and Ian Sutherland on 64.
This weekend is a big one for the Automatic Ball Trap shooters seeking Scottish team places. The first shoot starts at 2pm tomorrow with entries open at 1pm. On Sunday the shoot starts at 10am with entries taken from 9.30am.
